Employment Specialist for Deaf and Hard of Hearing

You’re caring, strong, and experienced in working with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing (HOH). You’re committed to going beyond to make our customer’s (and our internal team’s) experience a smooth and joyful journey.

You have proven experience along with an understanding or high interest in the preparing individuals for successful entry into the workplace and securing them a job that aligns with their employment goals. You have an innate ability to make customers feel heard, reassured and empowered to enter the workforce. As our Employment Specialist, you’ll wear many hats and have the opportunity to engage with our amazing customers and connect with our wonderful business community.

What You’ll be Doing In this Role:

  • Performing as an active, engaged and responsible member of the Employment Specialist team.
  • Communicating regularly and promptly with customer, (Transition)/Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (T/VRC) and employers.
  • Ensuring all experiences for the above exceed expectations.
  • Collaborating internally with the Director and all Employment Specialists to identify the best employment opportunities for our deaf and HOH customers.
  • Working independently and with the Director to carefully complete all paperwork required by Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and Speerhead Beyond.
  • Forging strong working relationships with our local business communities.
  • Working seamlessly with a multi-faceted team to maintain company standards and meet time frames.
  • Delivering outstanding service to our customers, VRCs and business community.
  • Bringing valuable insights, knowledge and help to all members of the Employment Specialist team.

Necessary Skills

  • Sign Language proficient. (Show proof of proficiency in sign language: BEI or RID or SLPI)
  • Love working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Innate ability to network with businesses to identify employment opportunities.
  • Train and prepare customers for job search (i.e. Resume development, interview preparation, pre-employment assessments, preparing for first day on the job)
  • After placement, assist clients with job skills training.
  • Completed or able to immediately complete UNTWISE Job Skill Training and Job Placement credential.
  • Daily access to reliable computer and printer.

Specifically, you will teach job-related skills, reinforce skills, and develop or set up accommodations and/or compensatory techniques to increase the client’s independence. You have an innate ability to make customers feel heard, reassured, and empowered to conquer one’s job skills. As our Job Skills Trainer, you’ll wear many hats and have the opportunity to engage with our amazing customers and connect with our wonderful business community.

What You’ll be Doing In this Role:

  • Upholding Speerhead Beyond’s mission, vision, and values
  • Instructing individuals on how to best perform job-related tasks.
  • Monitoring and tracking individuals performance as related to goals.
  • Devising effective instructional techniques; Collaborate with team to do so.
